This was the first of the Stones Trilogy of shows in Philly during 2002. The Stones performed at three venues over a period of five days.
Beginning at the Vet on September 18, followed by a performance at the First Union Center (9/20/02) and a special appearance at the Tower Theater on Sunday (9/22/02). Tickets for the Tower show cost about $52.oo. The bargain of the century.

A late afternoon view of the Rolling Stones’ stage setup for the “Tattoo You” Tour. Veterans Stadium and The Spectrum are visible along the horizon. Earlier in the day, I was escorted out of the stadium by Jim Callahan, the Stones’ long-time security director, after getting caught shooting the rehearsal. Shortly after, I snuck back in and took this shot from the upper level on the south side. © ROGER BARONE 1981

MICK JAGGER: JFK STADIUM (AUGUST 21, 1981)This photo shows Mick Jagger being recorded by WMMR’s promotions director John Bloodwell. Jagger flubbed and stuttered his way through the promo after forgetting his words. The unedited spot was broadcast on WMMR, mistakes and all. For anyone who heard it, this is what the recording session looked like.
Bloodwell wanted a copy of this photo, but he didn’t want to pay the cost of printing and shipping. Rather than foot the bill myself, I just forgot about him., reasoning why should I lose money on this deal. The total cost was about $10, including shipping.
